BB Cream vs Sunscreen: What's the Difference?
It's a fair question — if your BB Cream already has SPF, do you still need a separate sunscreen? The short answer: it depends on how much sun exposure you're getting.
What a BB Cream is for
BB Cream (Beyond Beauty / Blemish Balm) is a multi-benefit skin perfector — it evens out tone, hides blemishes, hydrates, and offers a natural, lightweight coverage, usually with SPF built in (like SPF 50 PA+++). It's designed as the last step of a light makeup or "no-makeup makeup" routine.
What sunscreen is for
A dedicated sun defense cream is formulated purely for broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection at a higher, more consistent SPF (like SPF 60 PA++++), without needing to double as coverage or makeup.
Which one do you need?
- Everyday indoor/low-exposure days: BB Cream's built-in SPF is often enough.
- Extended outdoor exposure: Apply a dedicated sun defense cream first, then BB Cream on top if you want coverage.
- Reapplication: Sunscreen needs reapplying every 2 hours in direct sun — most people don't reapply BB Cream that often, so don't rely on it alone for a beach day or long commute.
For daily city life, BB Cream alone is a reasonable shortcut. For real sun exposure, layer both.
